Rev. Daniel V. Palmer, 60, of Bradford, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Daniel was born in Dansville, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1960. He was a son of David L. Palmer, who preceded him in death, and Shirley White Palmer, who survives. On June 27, 1987 in Dansville, N.Y., he married Robin E. Baker Palmer, who survives.
He was a graduate of Dansville High School, class of 1978, and later graduated Summa Cum Laude receiving his bachelors in business management from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Daniel was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving six years aboard the USS Billfish SSN-676 (submarine) as a nuclear chemist. He was honorably discharged in 1986.
In 1989, Daniel was ordained as a minister and began missionary work in Jamaica, West Indies. After four years on the island, he returned to the Bradford area and pastored Cyclone Community Church for eight years. Thereafter he supported, served, associate pastored, and was an active member on many boards of various ministries.
Throughout his time in ministry, he continued his professional career at several local businesses, culminating with his position at American Refining Group in 2010. Daniel took pride in his work and created countless relationships and partnerships while participating in a number of supportive boards.
Daniel was an active member in the local community through multiple volunteer positions. He was coach of winter and summer soccer for the youth of Bradford. He sat on several boards in support of the Bradford area. He was elected as a city councilman in 2015, in charge of the parks and recreation department. He was currently in his second four-year term overseeing the Department of Public Works.
Daniel was survived by: two brothers, David Palmer and Dennis Palmer; six children, Nicholas (Cierra) Palmer, Destiny (Thomas) DeCasper, Ariel (Quinton) Quick, Jonathan (Amelia) Palmer, Charles Palmer, and Ryan Palmer; and three grandchildren, William DeCasper, Adelaide DeCasper, and Theodor DeCasper.
Daniel was preceded in death by his daughter, Jewel Palmer, who died June 12, 2000, and father David L. Palmer, who died Feb. 6, 2021.
Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021. from 2 to 6 p.m. at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., Bradford. There will be a private funeral service but friends are invited to livestream it on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 3 p.m. Captain David Means will be officiating.
